The owners of a Charleston pizzeria plan to add more establishments to the area.
Adam carb, co-owner of Steel city pizza, said the company hopes to expand by opening three more restaurants, with the first announcement early next year.
Carb and Gavin McCulley co-owner of Steel City Pizza as well as the recently closed Community pizzeria near Tangier points of sale in North Charleston.
Carb said the old Community Pizza House, which the owners said they closed in early June due to understaffing, has held up but could function better as a different type of restaurant since. Fluffy mushroom the pizzeria is just down the street.
“It’s difficult to have two large pizzerias in a non-residential market,” he said.
It’s a bit early to announce planned locations for Steel City Pizza, Carb said, but one could be on the way by spring 2022.
Carb and McCulley have been trying to sell the building that has housed Community Pizza House since late 2019.
Steel City Pizza currently has three locations in Mount Pleasant, North Charleston and Carrefour Carnes at Goose Creek.

A new restaurant is now open across from Marion Square in downtown Charleston.
Hero donuts and buns is located at 145, rue Calhoun, where Panera bread was once localized.
The menu includes items beyond breakfast and donuts, depending on Gerry Schauer with the corporate real estate company Avison Young, who represented the tenant.
The Alabama-based company also offers burgers, sandwiches, and salads. He also applied for a liquor license earlier this year, so look for mimosas, bloody marys, and beer as well.
Charleston location is founder Drakeis the fourth. Two more are in Birmingham home port while another store is in Atlanta. Others are in the works, according to the restaurant’s website.
Rebranding
A Charleston restaurant closes for part of July to update its interior and rename itself.
The Park Café at 730 Rutledge Ave. will close July 12-24 and reopen July 27 Park & Grove.
It will still be open for lunch and brunch, but will now focus on dinner, serving seasonal dishes.
Chef of the culinary team is chef Ramon taimanglo, former executive chef of Grill of the peninsula. Agri-food industry veteran Samson Kohanski will be managing director.

Park & Grove will be open from July 27 through August. 3 for dinner service only (5 pm-10pm Tuesday to Thursday and 5 pm-11pm Friday and Saturday). Starting August 4, it will be open Tuesday to Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.

A downtown Charleston art store will close later this month after an eight-year run.
Mecca of art will close July 20 at 427 King St., with artwork up to 50 percent off. Normal business hours of 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. will be maintained until the last day.
No target date
A few readers have asked when the new Target downtown Charleston store will open.
No opening date has been set for the planned small-format store at 211 King St., spokesperson Jill lewis noted.
“We will announce it as we get closer to the opening,” she said.
In March, the Minneapolis-based retailer announced it will occupy 30,000 square feet in the Majestic square corner ground floor space on King Street and Market Street which recently housed a teenage clothier Forever 21 and before Saks Fifth Avenue.
Target signed an initial 10-year lease with six five-year extension options, according to a memorandum filed with the Charleston County Deeds Register.

Selling summer books to support Charleston County Public Library The system is scheduled for July 9-11 at the main branch at 68 Calhoun Street in downtown Charleston.
The sale runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. from July 9 to 10 and from 2 to 4 p.m. on July 11. A members-only event is planned for the evening of July 8.
Prices start at $ 1 for paperbacks and $ 4 for hardcover books. Wearing a mask is encouraged during the sale sponsored by Friends of the library.
