The owners of a Charleston pizzeria plan to add more establishments to the area.

Adam carb, co-owner of Steel city pizza, said the company hopes to expand by opening three more restaurants, with the first announcement early next year.

Carb said the old Community Pizza House, which the owners said they closed in early June due to understaffing, has held up but could function better as a different type of restaurant since. Fluffy mushroom the pizzeria is just down the street.

“It’s difficult to have two large pizzerias in a non-residential market,” he said.

It’s a bit early to announce planned locations for Steel City Pizza, Carb said, but one could be on the way by spring 2022.

Carb and McCulley have been trying to sell the building that has housed Community Pizza House since late 2019.

Steel City Pizza currently has three locations in Mount Pleasant, North Charleston and Carrefour Carnes at Goose Creek.

Currently in service

A new restaurant is now open across from Marion Square in downtown Charleston.

Hero donuts and buns is located at 145, rue Calhoun, where Panera bread was once localized.

The menu includes items beyond breakfast and donuts, depending on Gerry Schauer with the corporate real estate company Avison Young, who represented the tenant.

The Alabama-based company also offers burgers, sandwiches, and salads. He also applied for a liquor license earlier this year, so look for mimosas, bloody marys, and beer as well.

Charleston location is founder Drakeis the fourth. Two more are in Birmingham home port while another store is in Atlanta. Others are in the works, according to the restaurant’s website.

A downtown Charleston art store will close later this month after an eight-year run.

A few readers have asked when the new Target downtown Charleston store will open.

No opening date has been set for the planned small-format store at 211 King St., spokesperson Jill lewis noted.
