Pass by the Penticton Art Gallery and tickle golden ivories.
The colorful public piano was just installed this weekend and is now on display outside the gallery for everyone to play.
“Many thanks to Carla and PAG’s Young @ Art students for painting this piano all summer,” the gallery’s Facebook page said on Sunday, August 22.
There is plenty of outdoor art to be discovered in the gallery, from string bombs on the bridge to the Ha Ha Ha Kidz Fest rainbow tile mural located by the piano.
The gallery’s public piano will likely be the only one in Penticton this summer.
Last year there was a public piano in Nanaimo Square but after a good run it was silenced by vandals in September 2020 and had to be taken apart and thrown away.
However, the piano bench was saved. It remains on display at the Long Gallery on Main Street as a way to remember what has been a “beautiful experience” this summer in Penticton, said Jenny Long, artist and owner of the Long Gallery.
The Downtown Penticton Association has confirmed that it will not have a public piano this year.
