FITCHBURG – The Fitchburg Cultural Council invites the public to attend its annual Beneficiary Reception and Community Contribution event from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, August 13 at the Fitchburg Art Museum, giving attendees the opportunity to learn more on various arts and cultural programs taking place in the city.
“As grant applications open this fall, we need the public’s input on what our board’s priorities should be as another qualifier for applications and to guide our selection process,” said the invitation to the event.
FCC Co-Chair and Trustee Audrey Pendleton-Chow said she is required to host an annual community contribution event by the Mass Cultural Council, the state entity that allocates money to the city of Fitchburg to fund cultural programs. People are invited to give their opinion on cultural programs they would like to see in the city.
“Public feedback directly determines our board’s priorities and the guidelines requirements for the upcoming fall grant applications,” she said. “It is with public input that the FCC represents and allocates money to applications that meet the demands and wants and needs of the community in the arts, science and humanities programs that we consider to be of public interest. “
The reception will honor programs funded by this year’s FCC grant, including the annual regional arts and crafts exhibition at the Fitchburg Art Museum, field concerts, sensory days at the Wachusett Wildlife Sanctuary Meadow of Mass Audubon, the annual Fitchburg Blacksmith and Renaissance Festival, Upper Common holiday lights and ceremony, library programs, senior center programs, school programs, scholarship programs, etc.
“Organizers and creatives are doing amazing things accessible to our community,” said Pendleton-Chow. “The Reception of Beneficiaries and Community Contribution event helps to highlight these projects and events. “
In addition to the general public, all those who participate in FCC-funded grant programs are welcome to attend, giving them the opportunity to network with other creators and members of the public to promote their program. Recipients are encouraged to bring flyers and promotional material to place on the recipients display table, and the team at “FCC TV,” a new TV show airing Wednesdays at 8 p.m. on Fitchburg Access Television, will interview them. grant recipients on their programs and recap the event.
The event will take place under a marquee in the courtyard of the museum, rain or shine. There will be live music by Eddy Troxler, a cash bar and light snacks individually wrapped for attendees. If you can’t attend but want to promote your FCC-funded program, send a few sentences describing your program and high-resolution photos to [email protected] for inclusion in a slideshow.
Pendleton-Chow said they were unable to organize the reception for beneficiaries last year due to the pandemic, and the discussion of community contribution, which is usually combined, was held virtually via video conference. .
“We are delighted to be hosting our first in-person event since the pandemic, where there will also be guest speakers from the mayor’s office and the representative of the state and the Mass Culture Council,” she said.
FCC grant applications for FY22 will open on September 1 and the submission deadline is October 15. A creative meeting + welcome will take place on September 24 and the Fitchburg Open Studios will take place on September 25 and 26.
