Shop to help Ukrainians | News, Sports, Jobs

We have all watched in horror as the tragedy unfolds when Russia attacks Ukraine.

Now, as News Lifestyles editor Darby Hinkley recently reported, there is a way to get involved locally to help those displaced by war.

A rummage sale, bake sale, silent art auction and bazaar will take place in the APlex Ballroom, 701 Woodward Ave, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. the Saturday. Money raised by the event, hosted by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Trinity Episcopal Church Women, and Alpena Community College Women’s Athletics, will benefit the Ukraine through the charity Save the Children.

We urge everyone who can shop at the APlex this weekend to help those in need overseas.

If you cannot make it to the sale, you can mail a check to Trinity Episcopal Church, 124 E. Washington Ave., Alpena, Michigan, 49707. Make checks payable to Save the Children. Note the fundraiser for Ukrainian-Alpena refugees in the memo line of the check.

For more information, call 989-217-6335 or visit support.savethechildren.org.

We are delighted to see these churches hosting this event and wish them good luck in their fundraising efforts.
