Peninsulas, a locally owned boutique and design company celebrating all things Michigan, is expanding with the purchase and renovation of a building at 3171 12 Mile Rd. in Berkley, which is a few doors from the current store.

The new site will open on June 28.

“Six years ago, the people of Berkley welcomed us with open arms and have been incredibly loyal and supportive ever since,” says Peninsulas co-owner Robert Jameson. “We can’t think of a better place to permanently put down our roots and continue to celebrate all things Michigan from our curated collection.”

Jameson and his wife, Sherri Lawton Jameson, will open the new space after extensive renovations. The store will have a “Northern” feel with its original but repainted tile ceiling, vintage French doors, 100-year-old antique store counter and the Peninsula crest on a brand new facade.

The Peninsulas collection includes homewares, apparel, accessories and gifts inspired by the lakes and lands of Michigan. Most items are custom designed by Lawton Jameson and many are made in Michigan. Lawton Jameson also creates exclusive Michigan-themed designs for various businesses.

The Jamesons also operate a Peninsulas store atop the Tunnel of Trees in Cross Village (southwest of Mackinaw City) from May through October, as well as online sales at ShopPeninsulas.comand sales through wholesale partnerships at 75 locations across the state.

The company is one of only two statewide vendors authorized to design and offer official Michigan State Parks, Trails and Waterways products. Ten percent of all sales directly support Michigan DNR programs.

“After renting out our old location, we decided to put down even more lasting roots in Berkley, with easy access for all of our clients in the area,” explains Jameson.

Jameson and Lawton Jameson are longtime Michiganders who opened Peninsulas in 2011. Prior to the launch, Jameson worked in the automotive industry and now teaches at Detroit’s College for Creative Studies.

Lawton Jameson earned a bachelor’s degree from Kendall College of Art and Design in Grand Rapids and was an award-winning graphic designer for advertising agencies before taking over creative direction for Peninsulas.
