It’s time to bid for a good cause with Helping Hands

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -Helping Hands Humane Society kicks off its colorful fundraiser with the help of 90 local artists bringing over 250 works of art up for auction.

“I’m here today to support the animals, I’m a local artist here in Topeka. I just started selling my artwork this fall, so it’s been very, very exciting. Last year at their first auction I donated one piece and this year I donated two pieces so I really appreciate the cause,” said artist Sharon Luella.

Not only did the artists join together to help a great cause for their friends with paws, but also the community.

“Over 300 people have signed up to bid right now, we’ll probably get more as a lot of people come to see the art and in the first hour we’ve already raised $1,000, so we feel very supported,” said Emi Griess. .

Last year the money raised contributed to the high gas bill from the polar vortex storms, this year the donations go directly to the animals!

“It could go to routine vaccines, things that animals that come to us get on a regular basis or it could end up going to emergency situations. We will have animals that get hit by a car or test positive for the Heartworm treatment, which is quite an expensive treatment,” Griess said.

Griess says it’s events like these that show the amount of support Helping Hands has behind them.

“We are constantly reminded in different ways of how much our community supports us, but this is a very different event for us. It has to do with animals and it’s also about art which is a different subject. and it’s really nice to see so many artistic community members who care about animals who are willing to donate coins to raise funds for them, so we feel so grateful.”

Auctions end Saturday, May 28 at 8 p.m. and you can bid here.
