Community yard sale kicks off North Aurora Days

North Aurora Days returns August 5-6 with two days full of music, food and activities.

Favorite activities including Touch-A-Truck, Softball Tournament and Community Garage Sale will be happening throughout the weekend throughout the community.

Located along the scenic Fox River in Riverfront Park, North Aurora Days will feature bands starting at 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

On Fridays, The Jolly Ringwalds offer “The Ultimate ’80s Experience” with dance, rock and new wave from 5.30pm to 7.30pm followed by headliners Whiskey Romance from 8.30pm to 11pm

Beginning at 5 p.m. on Friday and 3 p.m. on Saturday, there will be on-site children’s programming with face painting and balloon art as well as the return of sponsor tables. The Messenger Public Library will host a story hour and children’s show featuring Ralph Covert of “Ralph’s World” and “TV Treehouse” from 3-4:30 p.m. Saturday. So meet Frankie the dinosaur from 5-6 p.m. This is your chance to get up close and personal with a walking, half-animatronic, half-puppet dinosaur. Beware, it is quite large and impressive! Frankie is approximately 7 feet tall and 12 feet long.

Let the games begin on Saturday with the Mixed Softball Tournament from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Fearn Park East and West Fields, 1501 Waterford Road.

The West Aurora High School National Honor Society and Student Ambassadors are hosting the Free Bag Tournament from 9 to 11 a.m. at Goodwin Elementary School. Register at www.northauroradays.org/events/bags-tournament/. There will be two divisions.

Bring the family to the fishing tournament at Willow Lake from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. On-site registration begins at 8:00 a.m. or register in advance. This free event is open to all children 15 and under. Prizes will be awarded in each age category. You must have your own fishing rods and bait.

Also on Saturday, stop by the Kane County Safety Coalition Safety Day and Touch-A-Truck from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Mooseheart Field House, off Mooseheart Road west of Highway 31. Join the fun as surrounding agencies take part in this educational training and entertaining event for children of all ages. Come and watch fire and rescue demonstrations and mingle with emergency teams. They will also offer car seat safety checks.

Other community events on Saturday include free hearing and retinal screenings from noon to 4 p.m. at the Messenger Public Library and Old Second Bank’s shredding event from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the local branch at 200 W. John St. Each participant is allowed up to two boxes of document bank to be shredded.

Enjoy plenty of food and drink options from 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Friday and 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Saturday. Food vendors include Mario’s Pizza, Salt Creek BBQ, Juquilita Tacos, Suzie’s Fun Foods, Georgie’s Hot Dogs, RS Concessions, and Foxy’s Ice Cream. The North Aurora Lions and the North Aurora Mothers Club will co-host the beer and wine tent.

Free shuttles will run approximately every 15-20 minutes from 5 p.m. to midnight on both days from Schneider Elementary School for the East Side and Jewel Middle School for the West Side. Shuttles will drop off at Riverfront Park.
