Auctions from old friends are now available for mail-order auctions

Old Friends, the Thoroughbred Retirement Facility in Georgetown, Ky., will host its 17th annual homecoming event on Sunday, May 8 starting at 12:00 p.m. (ET).

The event includes a live, silent auction of artwork, prints and racing memorabilia, including several collectible stallion halters.

For those unable to attend the event, bidding for these exceptional halters opens today. On the block are halters worn by:

American Pharaoh won the Belmont Stakes in 2015 to become the 12th Triple Crown Champion in history. By winning the Breeders’ Cup Classic the same year, he became the first horse to win the Grand Slam of racing.

Arrogate won the 2016 Travers Stakes in record time in his first stakes appearance. He went on to win the Breeders’ Cup Classic, the Dubai World Cup and the Pegasus World Cup. Arrogate died in 2020.

Zeniatta , the super mare, has won the Breeders’ Cup Classic, the Breeders’ Cup Distaff and 19 of her 20 starts. She was the 2010 Horse of the Year and was inducted into the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame in 2016.

Cigar won the 1995 Breeders’ Cup Classic and was America’s Horse of the Year 1995 and 1996. During his distinguished career he won 16 races in a row and was later inducted into the Racing Hall of Fame. Cigar adopted in 2014.

Rachel’s Valentina is best known for being the second foal of 2009 Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra. She is also known for winning the Grade I Spinaway Stakes when she was 2 years old.

Authentic won the Kentucky Derby and the 2020 Breeders’ Cup Classic, where he set a new track record at Keeneland. He also won the Sham Stakes, the San Felipe Stakes and the Haskell Invitational.

Also on the block is a shadow box, handcrafted by local artisan Jim Rose, commemorating the Old Friends retiree and 1997 Kentucky Derby – Preakness winner silver charm . The box contains a photo, a lock of hair and a halter worn by the Hall of Fame champion.

The deadline to receive submissions is Saturday, May 7 at 9 p.m. (ET).

At the event, someone will be in charge of bidding by proxy for you to start low and bid up to your highest number.

The Old Friends Homecoming event will be highlighted with live music, a BBQ buffet and farm tours where guests can meet Kentucky Derby champion Silver Charm, who is celebrating the 25th anniversary of his Derby victory. He is currently the oldest living winner of the Kentucky Derby.
